The Sacred Books
These are the books, that through the Ages, have given us direction, wisdom and inspiration. They are written guides for a better living, through prophets and seers, as to how we humans can find the Truth and thus find love, wisdom and peace. No matter what your religious beliefs, the message of these sources of Truth has a common thread....to Love.
The Baghavad Gita -
relates the dialogue that takes place between Arjuna and Krishna in the middle of a battlefield. Arjuna represents all of us looking for guidance in the moments of despair, in which the options available to us are equally dreadful in their implications. Krishna represents the wise teacher who helps Arjuna to traverse the inner journey from despair, uncertainty, anxiety and ignorance into wisdom, maturity, insight and love.
The Upanishads -
are a collection of sacred texts that predate the Bible by at least 2000 years. According to their teachings, the fabric of all that exists is an infinite and unified field of Consciousness, eternal and self-luminous. When we can see the universe in its unity and ourselves as part of it, we can also reflect about our relationship to everything and everybody. If we are one with everything then we can aim to relate to everything and everybody with respect, dignity, consideration and care.
The Dhammapada -
is a summary of the essential teachings of the Buddha, the Way of Truth. It is a guide to finding peace of mind and to secure serenity and inner freedom. When we attain peace and inner freedom, there is more clarity in our thinking, our actions benefit ourselves and others and our feelings become more life enhancing. Buddha's approach was very practical and favored an enriched life in the here and now.
The Tao -
or The Book of the Way, is a short book that contains 81 brief verses full of wisdom about how to live our lives, fully accepting things as they are. It goes beyond good, bad, evil, right, wrong, correct or incorrect, there is no duality. Duality merges and everything is perfect as it is, everything is just phenomenon in movement. We become harmonious with everything when we accept this.
The Bible -
consists of the Old Testament and the New Testament. It is the foundation of Western Civilization. It is the story of everlasting, ever present and ever-knowing Love, Compassion, Wisdom, Joy, Mercy shown in the relationship between God and Mankind. This Divine Love poured itself out into Adam and Eve. Their downfall is the archetype of broken relationships. It created the barrier between us and our True Essence (Real Love). The Old Testament is man's journey and experience while being alienated from Pure Love. He experiences loneliness, dejection, jealousy and anger. In the pit of despair, his defenses melt and the message of liberation can be heard and a promise of redemption and a new life emerges, as the New Testament relates.
The parable of the Prodigal Son tells the story of redemption and I find it an excellent guide towards the journey that each one of us needs to take back to our true essence.
